Lefthand Brewing Co.'s Milk Stout

Lakefront Brewery’s Riverwest Stein Beer

Beer… Good Beer

A glass of this Amber sweetheart will inspire you to dig into your favorite German fare.  While this beer finishes with a strong hop taste (not IPA strong), the balanced malt and sweetness of the beer make this beer an easy drinker.  I think it’s perfect for fall through early spring, but gives way to the more refreshing Belgian Whites for summer.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Amber

ABV%: 5.7%

Nose: Slight floral aromas give way to the ‘hoppiness’ of this beer

Body: Definitely not a “light” beer, however, this is no Stout. I’d liken it to a Sam Adams

Palate: part sweet, part bitter

Finish: Hops are noticed, but easily tolerated.

Quaff: Drink it out of a glass between 46-48 degrees.

Left Hand Milk Stout: Deliciousness is Heavy Handed

Milk Stout

Milk stout is a stout containing lactose. Because lactose cannot be fermented by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body (calories). Left Hand Brewing Co.'s Milk Stout lives up to this description entirely. Left Hand Brewing Co., headquartered in Colorado, has won various beer awards for their Milk Stout, and for good reason. It is a sweet, thick, malty beer with a decent finish. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a smooth, malty beer, and who has plenty of room in their stomach - it will fill you up.

Tasting Notes:

Color: dark brown

Proof / ABV%: 5.2

Nose: heavy, sweet, malty

Body: thick, syrupy
Palate: malty, has some decent undertones that come through, you can definitely tell it’s a milk stout

Finish: sweet but not heavy

Quaff: consumed in a regular pint glass, poured from a bottle

Doppelbock

Doppelbock or double bock is a stronger version of traditional bock that was first brewed in Munich by the Paulaner monks, an order founded by St. Francis of Paula. Spaten Optimator follows in this tradition presenting a sweet malty flavor with caramel tones and a crisp hop laced finish.

Tasting Notes:

Color:  golden brown

Proof / ABV%: 7.2

Nose: sweet, malty

Body: medium with a slight syrupy effect

Palate: caramel and decent malt tones

Finish: clean but still has that caramel undertone

Quaff: straight out of the bottle
